Timeline: 2018 – 2023
The Healing Lodge of the Seven Nations (HL) is a youth residential chemical dependency treatment center with a focus on the Native American population. Seven Tribal communities started and continue to support The Healing Lodge: the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, the Kootenai Tribe, the Nez Perce Tribe, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, the Spokane Tribe of Indians, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation.
The NIH has awarded the HL funds for Building Recovery in Tribal Communities (NARCH X), an extension of NARCH VIII–Promoting Cultures of Recovery in Tribal Nations. Through a consortium agreement, the Division will work in partnership with the HL to develop First Face, a culturally-grounded mental health first response system. We will train hundreds of Tribal community members on the First Face system and assess First Face learner effects. Simultaneously, we will build professional research capacity at the HL and provide sustainability for a new First Face Training Center at the HL.
