Principal Investigator: Sarah Nelson, PhD
Funder: The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility
Timeline: 2020

Since 2011, the Division and the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (FAAR) have engaged in an ambitious clinical software development and research agenda. This engagement has produced the Computerized Assessment & Referral System (CARS) and its variants, numerous conference presentations, training events, research reports, editorials & special series, and peer reviewed papers.

During 2020, the Division faculty and staff will continue to pursue CARS technology extension and advancement projects. These include: (1) Refining, testing, maintaining, and providing support for CARS-5 and the Spanish language translation of CARS; (2) consulting on large-scale implementation projects involving CARS; (3) pursuing collaborations to convert CARS for cloud-based use; and (4)surveying our current 700+ CARS registrants to learn more about their current use of CARS, their willingness to join a network of CARS users to share their experiences and expertise with each other, and their interest in contributing to a CARS data repository.
