Principal Investigator: Howard Shaffer, PhD, CAS
Funder: Integrated Centre on Addiction Prevention and Treatment of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Hong Kong
Timeline: 2014 – 2020

This project evaluates treatment seekers at the Hong Kong Integrated Centre on Addiction Prevention and Treatment (ICAPT). Specifically, this research and clinical supervision seminar examines psychological and treatment features that are common across various expressions of addiction and those features that are unique to specific expressions of addiction. The research team is investigating whether and to what extent people affected by different expressions of addiction share common deficits and vulnerabilities in the broad domains of mental health, personality, neurocognitive functioning, social functioning, and family functioning. This project also examines the extent of similarities and differences among treatment seekers who present with different expressions of addiction; research is focusing on the interrelatedness of relevant clinical variables (i.e., intensity, outcomes, therapist characteristics, therapeutic alliance). Finally, this project includes an ongoing seminar for clinicians and researchers.
