Timeline: 2014 – 2017

This project informs researchers and clinicians about the Syndrome Model of Addiction. In addition, this project evaluates treatment seekers at the Hong Kong ICAPT. Specifically, this study examines psychological and treatment features that are common across various expressions of addiction and those features that are unique to specific expressions of addiction. The research team is investigating whether and to what extent people affected by different expressions of addiction share common deficits and vulnerabilities in the broad domains of mental health, personality, neurocognitive functioning, social functioning, and family functioning. The study also examines the extent of similarities and differences among treatment seekers who present with different expressions of addiction; research is focusing on the inter-relatedness of relevant treatment variables (i.e., intensity, outcomes, therapist characteristics, therapeutic alliance). Finally, this project includes an ongoing seminar for clinicians and researchers. During this seminar, the group reviews clinical case studies and research methods.
